Reviews From Current and Former Students

  • working with tilley has changed my perspective on what taking music lessons has to be.  being someone who took private lessons for piano as a child, played in high school band, and also taken some private guitar lessons in the past there is a very specific dynamic that exists.  practice a certain set of scales at a certain tempo, learn this portion of this song exactly, etc.  while tilley can provide this type of structure if needed, she also has the ability to specifically listen to what you as an individual are working on and provide valuable input on how to go about achieving whatever your goals are.  whether it be songwriting, improvisation, technique, or general music theory she has the knowledge and the personability to help guide you along your musical journey.  the fact that she is an active professional musician herself concurrently while she teaches only further aides her and ability to connect with her students.  if you are a person looking to learn more about any part of the music making process as an independent guitar or bass player i cannot recommend working with tilley enough. she will give you everything you need to express yourself through your music.  5 stars
  • Tilley is an excellent teacher.  She masterfully toes the line between education and fun to keep playing guitar interesting and musical. That also helps as a neurodivergent student who used to struggle to find the point in practicing scales to find theory and mechanics engaging.  Truly a teacher of the people for the people
  • I used to struggle trying to learn to play guitar on my own and finding myself unable to improve beyond basic bar chord shapes. Tilley’s personalized approach helped me relearn necessary basics and correct bad habits and techniques. from the very first lesson Tilley helped me gain confidence in my abilities and expanded my musical theory knowledge as well. I recommend her lessons to anybody who wants to get serious about playing guitar
  • I’ve been studying music through the lens of multiple instruments for almost 15 years now and have had several different teachers throughout my journey. Learning one-on-one has always been my preferred method of receiving instruction, but I have found that it is very challenging for me to find an instructor that not only meshes with my personality, but also listens and caters to what I am interested in learning. Often, instructors miss the point of playing an instrument: playing music, and instead choose to spend so much time going over rudiments that, by the time we get to something interesting, I’m already burnt out. Learning from Ms. Komorny has been nothing but an excellent experience and I feel that I have advanced much more in the past 4 months than I have in the almost 2 years of playing before I started taking lessons. As a pre-medical student, something I value in a teacher is flexible scheduling and Ms. Komorny’s scheduling allows for me to schedule a lesson without having to reconfigure my entire week(end) around said lesson. Want to learn fast and have fun doing it? Give her a try, you won’t regret it!
  • Tilley is the best music teacher I’ve had in my life, and I’ve taken lessons on various instruments since I was very young. Every teacher I’ve been too before felt very standardized and monotonous (learn scales, go through the workbook, etc), but Tilley’s work feels very personalized and unique. they are also the first queer guitar teacher I’ve had and it’s really nice to have someone that is like me as a teacher :) she’s patient, understanding, and incredibly knowledgeable.
